The Ascension of the Lord

May 14th 2026

Yesterday, we celebrated The Ascension of the Lord, a special feast in the Catholic Church that is celebrated 40 days after Easter. Ascension marks the moment when Jesus returned to His Father in heaven, after appearing to His disciples, following His resurrection. Jesus' Ascension was not a goodbye, but a promise: He assured His followers that He would always be with them, and that the Holy Spirit would come to guide and strengthen them.

At home, you may like to talk to your children about what this means for us today: that even though we cannot see Jesus, He is still present in our lives, especially when we show love and kindness to others. We ask for God’s strength as we respond to Jesus’ call to “go and make disciples of all nations,” encouraging us to live out our faith every day, with courage, joy and hope, just as the Apostles did, almost 2000 years ago.

Congratulations Year 6!

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Year 6 children for their hard work, focus and resilience during SATs week. You approached each day with determination, resilience and a positive attitude, qualities that reflect the gifts God has given you.

We also want to thank our dedicated staff for their guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout this busy period. Their commitment reflects the love, care, and service at the heart of our wonderful school, ‘where every heart is sacred’.

Finally, a sincere thank you to our parents and carers for your support at home, helping your children feel prepared and confident. Your encouragement and prayers have played a vital role in their success.

We are proud of every child and grateful for everyone who has journeyed alongside them; may the perseverance, kindness, and faith shown this week continue to guide and inspire all of us.

Thank you!

Thank you so much to all of those parents and carers who are abiding by the age limits on their children’s apps. It really does help us to make the most of our learning time when we don’t have to deal with issues arising from arguments over social media that have taken place in the evening or at weekends.

Please note that the recommended minimum age to play Roblox is now 12+.

Thank you for keeping your children safe online.

Young Catholic Artist Award 2026

The Catholic Union Charitable Trust is delighted to announce the Catholic Young Artist Award. Open to primary school aged children, the theme will be Forgiveness.  The Award will be judged by Margaret Mizen, Founder of the Mizen Foundation.

Professor Peter Hindmarsh, Chair of the Catholic Union Charitable Trust says: “I am delighted that the Catholic Union Charitable Trust is supporting this newly established Catholic Young Artist Award. I hope that many children will take part and show us how best to depict forgiveness. My thanks to Margaret Mizen for judging the Award, Margaret is an ambassador for forgiveness, peace and hope and works tirelessly in schools and the community to spread this very important message”.

Launched this year, the Catholic Young Artist Award is sponsored by the Catholic Union Charitable Trust. The winner, to be announced before the end of the academic year, will receive a cash prize and runners up will be recognised too.  This Award runs in tandem with the Catholic Young Writer Award which is open to Catholic pupils of secondary school age focusing on the question ‘why do we go to confession’.

Margaret Mizen MBE, Founder of the Mizen Foundation, says: “It is an honour to be the judge for the Catholic Young Artist Award. I look forward to seeing all the pictures. Art is a great way to express our emotions and communicate such vitally important messages including those of forgiveness”.

Parents, guardians or teachers of primary school aged children wishing to submit an entry should complete the application form and scan pictures to info@catholicunion.org.uk with the title: Catholic Young Artist Award by 22 May 2026.  Please could you indicate the school and/or parish that you belong to as well as first name and school year of the child.
