Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Welcome back to school. I hope you all enjoyed a restful and enjoyable half-term break and had the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends.

As we begin the final half term of this academic year, we do so with gratitude for all that we have achieved together and with enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead. This is always a busy and exciting time in school, filled with learning, celebrations, special events, and opportunities for our children to continue growing in confidence and independence.

As a Catholic school community, we are reminded that God walks alongside us in all that we do. Through our faith, we are encouraged to show kindness, compassion and respect to one another, using the gifts and talents that God has given us to serve others and to be the very best versions of ourselves.

This half term also brings a particularly special celebration for our school family as we prepare to mark the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on 12th June. As a Sacred Heart school, this feast day holds great significance for us. The Sacred Heart reminds us of Jesus’ boundless love, mercy and compassion for all people. It calls each of us to reflect that same love in our daily lives through acts of kindness, forgiveness, service and care for those around us. As we celebrate our patronal feast, we give thanks for the many blessings we receive and renew our commitment to living out the values of the Sacred Heart in all that we do.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. May God bless you and your families, and may this half term be filled with joy, achievement and His guiding presence in all that we do.

Phonics Checks and Multiplication Checks

This week, our children have been working extremely hard to demonstrate all that they have learned this year. In particular, pupils in Year 1 and some Year 2 children have been carefully applying their phonics knowledge, showing growing confidence in reading, spelling, and blending. Meanwhile, Year 4 pupils have been putting their multiplication skills to the test, showing determination and resilience as they worked through their times tables challenges.

We are very proud of the effort, focus, and perseverance shown by all the children. It has been excellent to see them approaching their learning with such positivity and pride in their achievements.

A sincere thank you goes to our dedicated staff for their careful planning, preparation, and support in ensuring the children were well-prepared and confident. Their commitment behind the scenes has been key to the children’s success this week.

We would also like to extend our thanks to parents and carers for your continued encouragement and support at home. Working together in partnership makes a real difference to the progress and confidence of our pupils.

Well done to all involved for another productive and successful week of learning.

Building Work in KS2

Building Work Reminder

The new KS2 classroom is now complete, and following this, internal works will soon begin to create a Butterfly classroom, three offices, and a sensory room.

On July 23rd and 24th, the furniture from most of our classes will move to new learning spaces. As a result, school will close earlier than planned on Wednesday 22nd July. Work will be provided so that children will continue learning at home on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th July, with completed work welcome back in September for marking.

Further details regarding the work to be completed on 23rd and 24th July will be shared closer to the time.

Collection times on Wednesday 22nd July will be as follows:

3:05pm for Nursery and Reception

3:15pm for Classes 1, 2 and 2

3:25pm for Classes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

We appreciate that this change may cause some inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to improve our school environment for all of our pupils.

This week, Class 7 explored how their daily choices around exercise, hygiene, screen time, and getting 8 hours of sleep impact their overall health! To help them hit that nightly sleep goal, the students even practiced a guided deep-breathing and mindfulness meditation routine in class. They learned firsthand how to calm their minds and relax their bodies right before bed to help them drift off into a deeper, better rest.

During the afternoon of Thursday 18th June, there will be a "Book Exchange" taking place in the school hall. The aim of the event is to encourage pupils' love of reading by providing free access to new stories and allowing children to exchange outgrown books for something new to enjoy. Children will receive one token for each book they bring in. Happy swapping!

Mrs Lord will begin her maternity leave on Friday 12th June. We would like to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication to Forest School and wish her and her family every happiness as they prepare for their new arrival. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Lord back to school in May 2027.

We are also pleased to welcome Mr Battersby, who will be teaching Class 3 until the end of this academic year.
