May is a very special month in the Catholic calendar, as it is dedicated to Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary. In our school, we take this time to honour Mary, the mother of Jesus, for her love, kindness, and faithful obedience to God.
This year, as we continue to witness global conflict and suffering, our prayers take on an even deeper meaning. We remember Mary’s compassion and her care for those in need, and we are reminded to pray for peace, justice, and the protection of innocent lives around the world.
During May, Catholics often create May altars decorated with flowers and images of Mary, showing our respect and devotion. Catholics may also celebrate a May Procession, where we crown a statue of Mary, Queen of Heaven, with flowers.
At home, you might encourage your children to pray the Rosary, learn about Mary’s life, and reflect on how we can follow her example by being caring, prayerful, and gentle in our own lives. This month invites us to turn to Mary in prayer, asking for her guidance as we seek to bring comfort and hope to those who are suffering.
Our Lady of the Rosary, Pray for Us.
