'Where Every Heart is Sacred'

W/C 27/44/26

Literacy

Last week we were looking at jobs and careers, and the things people had to do to get those jobs and careers. On Thursday the MP for Gorton, Hannah Spencer, came to visit our Reception children. She told them about her life as a child, what school was like for her, and her previous job as a plumber. Hannah answered some really lovely questions from our children, who also wanted to find out more about the job of an MP.

Here We Are | Oliver Jeffers

This week we begin reading the text Here We Are. Through this week and the next, we will be continue our learning about space, and we will begin to think about our place in the universe and in God's world.

What do you know about our planet?

Maths

In maths this week we have been counting beyond 20. We have been learning to identify counting patterns. We have been adding more to a number and identifying how many more have been added.

Phonics

In phonics lessons this week, we have continued working on the sounds we already learnt, using them to read and write more complex words with consonant clusters e.g. land, swift. We have continued to read and write words with the -ed ending (which is used in the past simple tense of regular verbs).

Please do continue to encourage your child to complete their phonics homework.

Things to remember

Do continue to write a comment on your child's reading record, as this helps us fine-tune our teaching to best support them.

Please remember to read with your child at least 3x per week, for 5-10 minutes.

Also please do continue to read aloud to your child using picture books and non-fiction books they love.
