Palm Sunday and the Betrayal of Christ
On Sunday 29th March, the Church will celebrate Palm Sunday, the day that marks the beginning of Holy Week. This sacred week is the most important time in the Church’s year, as we journey with Christ through His Passion, death and Resurrection.
On Palm Sunday, we remember how Jesus entered Jerusalem to cheers of “Hosanna!”, with crowds laying palm branches before Him as a sign of honour and praise. Yet within the same liturgy, we also hear the solemn reading of the Passion, reminding us how quickly celebration turned to suffering.
During this week, we reflect in particular on the moment when Judas Iscariot agreed to betray Jesus Christ for thirty pieces of silver. His decision set in motion the events that would lead to the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and, ultimately, the joy of Easter Sunday.
Palm Sunday teaches us about the fragility of human loyalty, but also about God’s unwavering love. As we begin Holy Week together, may we walk closely with Jesus, preparing our hearts through prayer, reflection and acts of kindness as we await the hope of the Resurrection.
Our final Lenten Mass will be held in Sacred Heart RC Church at 9:15am on Tuesday 31st March. All are welcome.
