'Where Every Heart is Sacred'

W/C 26.01.26

Literacy

This week we begin reading the book 'The Pet', which tells the amusing tale of a boy called Digby who is in search of the perfect pet.

This week we will be looking at the story and the characters. We will also think about the characters' feelings and how they could use the Zones of Regulation to get back to the Green Zone.

What happens in the story? How is Digby feeling? How is Dad feeling? How is Gus feeling? Why?

Maths

This week the children are learning about the numbers 6, 7 and 8. They will be looking at how to represent these numbers and also finding 1 more and 1 less than the numbers.

Phonics

These are the sounds we are working on this week in our phonics lessons: ar, ur, oo (spoon).

Please continue to encourage your child to engage with their weekly phonics homework.

Please continue to make sure your child is in school every day on time, as our phonics lessons happen right at the start of the morning.

Things to remember

Over the next couple of weeks, Reception children will be making dioramas of different habitats. This will help contextualise and extend our learning about animals and their habitats which has been happening across this half term.

We are asking parents/ families to donate shoe boxes with lids (hopefully attached lids that flip open) so that the children can work on these. Thank you in advance for your donations.
