Sacred Heart R.C. Primary School

'Where Every Heart is Sacred'

W/C 09.02.26

Next Wednesday, during our half term break, we begin Lent with Ash Wednesday. On Ash Wednesday, Catholics all over the world receive a small cross of ashes on our foreheads as a sign that we want to grow closer to God. The ashes remind us that we are called to love God and others, to say sorry for the times we have done wrong, and to try to live better lives.

Lent is a special time to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. We prepare through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. In school, we encourage our children to pray more, give more through being kind and helping others, and think about how Jesus shows us the way to live which also includes reflecting on our behaviour and choices. We remind children that we all have the power to make the world a better place because even small acts of love and care can make a big difference to those around us.

Dear Jesus, help us to turn to You this Lent. Teach us to be kind, to say sorry when we need to, and to share Your love with everyone. Amen.

We wish all our families a happy and healthy half-term break. May this time be full of rest, joy, and the love of Jesus in your hearts. We look forward to welcoming you back to school at 8:45am on Monday February 23rd.

The children in Nursery have enjoyed this half term's topic on People Who Help Us. They have learned about the role of the emergency services, dentist, postal worker and staff in school Last week, the children had a visit from the local PCSOs. They came in to see us and talked about their job. They passed around some equipment and explained how they help to keep our local area safe. This week, the children have been very busy. We had a visit from a dental nurse who talked to us about how to brush our teeth properly and keep them healthy. The children took a walk around the school to learn about the different jobs people do. They visited the kitchen, the staffroom, the office, the Deputy Headteacher's room and the Headteacher's room. They really enjoyed talking to the adults about their roles and what they do in school

Good luck, Miss Tennant!

Sadly, Miss Tennant, will be leaving Sacred Heart RC Primary School at the end of this half term, having accepted a promotion at our sister school, St Francis (part of the Emmaus Catholic Academy Trust).

In the short term, Miss Tennant will be replaced in the office by Mrs Morris until we appoint a permanent Admin Officer after the half term break.

During her time with us, Miss Tennant has been a valued and dedicated member of our staff team. She has demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism and genuine kindness in her role. Miss Tennant has made a significant contribution to the smooth running of the school, and she will be greatly missed by our school community. We would like to thank her for her hard work and dedication and wish her every success and happiness in her future endeavours at St Francis.

Reading Volunteers

We need you!

Could you or a family member spare some time to become a regular reading volunteer at Sacred Heart? We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to regular slots to read with children across school. As a volunteer, you will play a key role in supporting children in becoming confident, independent readers. The role will involve listening to children read and discussing the book with them.

If you would like to register your interest as a reading volunteer, please speak to Mrs McCarthy or the school office.

Tuesday 10th February

Safer Internet Day 2026 took place on the 10th of February, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI'.

Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year we cover an online issue or theme that speaks about the things young people are seeing and experiencing online. This year Safer Internet Day focused on the impact of AI on all of our lives, looking at how AI can be used for good, and giving advice and guidance that empowers people to use AI safely and responsibly.
