Pentecost (19th May)

Pentecost is a joyful and powerful celebration in the Church calendar, marking the moment the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, filling them with courage and wisdom to spread the Good News. Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Church” because it was the beginning of the disciples' mission to share Jesus' teachings with the world.

Thank you to Class 5 for helping to deepen our understanding of this crucial event in the history of our Church. At home, you may like to talk to your children about how the Holy Spirit still works in our lives today—guiding us, strengthening us, and helping us show love, kindness, and forgiveness to others.

As we approach Pentecost Sunday, we pray together as a school community that the Holy Spirit fills our hearts with peace, unity, and joy, just as it did for the first followers of Jesus.

Bend The Rules Day for Mary's Meals

Mary's Meals

Today was 'Bend The Rules' Day at Sacred Heart, to raise funds for Mary's Meals.

Mary’s Meals is a registered charity serving a nutritious daily meal to some of the world’s poorest children to attract them into the classroom where they can gain an education and a brighter future.

As a school, we have been able to raise £171! This money is enough to pay for 1710 school meals for children in Third World countries. Thank you to our families for your generous contributions.

Culture Day, 2025

A reminder that next Friday is 'Culture Day' at Sacred Heart. Children are invited to come to school wearing clothes that represent a culture/country of their choice. We will spend the morning learning all about these countries, including; languages, flags, finding the country on a map, famous inventions/ people from that country, food tasting, drawing etc.

Families are invited to collect their children at 2.30pm and explore the cultural stalls and performances put on by our fabulous parents.

Class News

Class 4

Last week, Class 4 enjoyed spending time in Forest school. We enjoyed many activities such as den building, bug hunting, pretending to be Roman soldiers and toasting marshmallows.

Class 6

Class 6 enjoyed making nature bands, using tools such as peelers and exploring the surrounding outdoor area this week in Forest School.

Class 8

This week, the Year 6 children from Class 8 have completed their SATS. Their hard work and dedication over the past few months has paid off as they were cool, calm and confident with tackling every question. They have really made themselves and our school proud.

The Year 5 children have bonded together with Class 7 and supported the Year 6s. They are now preparing for their turn to be the oldest in the school next year.

Class 8 have still managed to put their creativity and passion into programming Micro:bits to make an animation. They have used Make Code to vary the inputs and puts of their Micro:bits. Earlier in the week, the children used pencil and pen to create beautiful drawings of poppies for their art topic. Take a look at some of their wonderful work.

Tips for staying safe online: parent factsheet

Pass our pointers on to your child to help keep them safe online:

  •  Be careful talking to people you don’t know and trust in real life – anyone can pretend to be a child online. If you do talk to people you don’t know, don’t tell them your personal information – such as your name, age, what street you live on, your school’s name, or your location. If they ask for images or videos of yourself, say no, stop talking to them and report this to a trusted adult.
  • You need to be 13 years old to use most social media apps. If you do use them, keep your profiles private, to limit what others can see. Think carefully about what you share and with who – once you’ve shared an image, you can’t control what the other person does with it. Remember, it’s against the law to take, share or view sexual images of under-18s.
  •  Use AI chatbots carefully – not everything they generate is real. They may also tell you to do things that could harm you or someone else. Don’t give them your personal information or photos – they could be used to make fake images, or to bully or blackmail you.
  • Keep in mind that what you post online now could be seen by people in the future, like when you’re trying to get a job when you’re older.
  • If you see something upsetting, or you’re bullied online, tell an adult you trust. Ask them to report it by following the instructions on the website, game or app – they’ll probably need to select the 3 dots next to a post or comment.
  • When you read, listen to or watch the news online, think about where the information comes from, and if it could be made up or a hoax.
  • Look out for hoaxes and scams, like messages you’re meant to forward on or ones that ask you for payment details or your password.
  • Be wary of schemes promising easy cash for receiving and transferring money – they’re almost definitely criminal activity.
  • Watch out for loot boxes or other parts of games where you pay money to take a chance on getting a reward – you can end up spending lots of money on them.

Remember, people make their lives look more exciting and interesting online. People often edit their photos to make them look better, or make fake images with AI tools, so don’t believe everything you see. This includes gang lifestyles – they’re not as glamorous as they look.
