St. Matthew, Apostle

This month, we celebrate St Matthew, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of the first Gospel in the New Testament. Before following Jesus, Matthew worked as a tax collector—an unpopular job at the time. Yet Jesus saw something special in him and simply said, “Follow me,” and Matthew left everything behind to become one of His closest followers.

St Matthew teaches us that no one is beyond God’s love and that Jesus calls each of us, no matter who we are, to follow Him. Through his Gospel, Matthew helps us to understand Jesus’ life, teachings, and message of mercy.

At school, we are learning that, like St Matthew, we can listen to Jesus’ voice and choose to follow Him with open hearts. Let us ask St Matthew to pray for us, that we may grow in faith and share God’s love with others.

St Matthew, help us to be brave when Jesus calls us. Teach us to listen, to follow Him, and to share His love with others. Amen.

School Uniform

Sacred Heart is proud to be a uniformed school, so all children are required to wear school uniform and the co-operation of all parents is sought in maintaining this. It is of great help if all items of clothing are clearly marked with your child’s name.

Haircuts must be appropriate for school and hair should not be dyed. Parents will be asked to correct a child’s inappropriate hairstyle if necessary. Children should not have bright colours dyed or woven into the hair and all hairstyles should be sensible.

Apart from small stud earrings, we do not permit the wearing of jewellery in school due to obvious health and safety risks, especially during games and play times.

You can purchase Sacred Heart school uniform from KK Sports (Unit 1, next to Tesco Extra, Hyde Rd, Gorton) and from MyClothing. The prices are competitive and MyClothing is able to deliver your items to your home address.  As well as uniform with the school logo, you will also be able to order other items of school uniform, such as trousers, skirts, pinafores and PE kit. Plain items, without the school logo, can be purchased easily from supermarkets and clothing retailers.

Please click here for more uniform information from our own website.

Snacks in school

Please remember that we are a nut free school due to allergies

Children in EYFS and KS1 receive a free healthy snack each day in school.

KS2 children are welcome to bring a healthy snack in for morning break time if they find that they are getting hungry before lunch. Healthy snacks should not include nuts due to the number of children with serious nut allergies in school. Fruit, raisins, chopped vegetables or healthy cereal bars are best.

Please also remember to send your child with a full water bottle to school each day.

Birthday Celebrations

Non-uniform for birthday boys and girls but no cakes or sweets please

As a healthy school, we encourage healthy eating throughout the school day. For this reason, our tradition at Sacred Heart is for children to come to school in non-uniform on their birthdays. This way, all staff and pupils can wish the child happy birthday all day long! We also sing Happy Birthday in every Friday assembly.

Whilst we appreciate the kind thought behind sending cakes/sweets into school on birthdays, we ask that you do not do this as it not only compromises our healthy eating practice but also puts additional pressure on families whose finances may be stretched. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
