Sacred Heart R.C. Primary School

'Where Every Heart is Sacred'

W/C 01.09.25

On behalf of the staff and governors of our wonderful school, I wish you a very warm welcome back to Sacred Heart! I hope you have enjoyed a pleasant summer, filled with the right balance of rest, fun, peace and love.

Thank you for preparing your children so well for the start of the new school year. It has been such a joy to see the happy, smiling faces of your lovely children again after the long summer break, and uplifting to hear their cheerful chatter and laughter once more filling our school site. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed hearing all about their summer adventures, and I’m delighted by how well the children are settling into their new classes.

Thank you also for supporting our school uniform policy, which ensures that all children feel equal in the eyes of their peers, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. A quick reminder: small stud earrings are allowed (except during PE and swimming lessons), and children must wear black shoes or trainers with no visible logos at all times in school. Boots are also permitted.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our staff who worked so hard over the summer to prepare their classrooms and curricula for what promises to be a very rewarding academic year.

The staff and I look forward to another successful year together as we continue to grow as a community, supporting one another to the best of our ability, and ensuring our children reach their full potential in a safe and caring environment.

If you have questions about your child’s learning journey, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance. The end of the school day is the best time for these conversations, as the teacher will be able to give you their full attention, or make a face-to-face appointment for meetings that require a longer conversation.

If you ever wish to discuss anything in more detail with a senior leader or with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator, please feel free to make an appointment with me (Headteacher), Mrs McCarthy (Deputy Headteacher), or Miss Garland (SENDCO). As usual, Mrs McCarthy and I will be on the yard most mornings and we will be happy to hear your news as well as any constructive feedback you may have about our school.

It is a privilege and an honour to have been entrusted with leading our school forward; I will continue to work as diligently as ever, with Christ and the best interests of our children, staff and families at the centre of every decision I make.

Wishing you all a very happy school year ahead!

Yours, in Christ,

Mrs Botham

Headteacher

I am delighted to inform you that Miss Devaney, Mrs Akyaa, and Mrs Shah are now official members of the Sacred Heart staff, having supported us last academic year as volunteers or supply staff. I am sure you will join me in giving them a very warm official welcome.

We are also pleased to share that Mrs Slater has returned from maternity leave and will be sharing the Reception 1 class with Mrs Bowen, who is due to return from maternity leave next month.

We are truly blessed to have such a dedicated and experienced team, all of whom are committed to doing their very best for each and every one of our precious children.

Premises Update

We are pleased to share that the Salford Diocese has generously agreed to extend our school’s footprint by funding the addition of a new classroom within our KS2 ‘new build’ or ‘annex’ building, that currently houses Classes 5, 7, 8 and 9.

This development will allow us to repurpose space in the main building to create a dedicated sensory room, three additional offices, and free up further rooms for small-group interventions and a designated meeting space.

We are currently awaiting planning permission before construction can begin and anticipate that the work will be completed around February half term. While the project is underway, there may be some disruption to access in the small yard area in front of the ‘new build’. We will keep you informed through our weekly newsletters, and for more urgent updates, via ParentMail.

Mass on Tuesday 9th September

You are very welcome to join us for our first Mass of the new academic year on Tuesday 9th September at 9:15am in Sacred Heart RC Church. Classes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 will attend, and readers will be chosen from our oldest classes.

After School Club Update

Mrs Ellis is working diligently behind the scenes to establish a daily after-school club, which will run until 6:00pm. Setting up such a provision involves a significant amount of paperwork, but we are hopeful that it will be up and running on or before 6th January 2026.

Please ensure you read all school communications to stay up to date with announcements regarding our new after-school club.

In the meantime, PSCL will continue to run a weekly after-school sports club, the art club will continue with Mrs Katshitis, and we are hopeful that One Education will also continue to offer a weekly music club. Miss Tennant, in the main school office, will be able to help you to book onto any of the clubs mentioned in this paragraph.

We are delighted to announce that Sacred Heart has achieved the prestigious Opal Gold Award! OPAL was set up in 2020 to improve the quality of play in English primary schools and to ensure that every school child has an amazing playtime every day with no exceptions.

Receiving the OPAL Gold Award puts Sacred Heart in the top 2% of schools in the country for our play provision for children.

We are so grateful to all our parents and staff for your donations to our play time resources, making this award possible. Thank you!

Curriculum

We are very proud of our bespoke school curriculum. It has been thoughtfully and sensitively planned, taking into account the social-economic demographics of the school and the world in which we live. Learning in each area of the curriculum is sequenced so that children build on their prior knowledge and skills and are able to store new learning in their long term memories. Please visit the curriculum area of our school website; here, you will be able to see the curriculum topics your child will be covering this year and the progression of skills and knowledge throughout the school.

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year!

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With many young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

We look forward to applying once again in 2026!

Keep our children safe!

PLEASE NO PARKING OR STOPPING ON KNUTSFORD ROAD!

Unless you have a blue disabled badge, please do not park or even stop on Knutsford Road opposite the school or outside the school between the hours of 8am and 5pm as clearly marked on the yellow signs on both sides of the road.

In accordance with the Highway Code, please do not park within 10 metres of the junctions on Knutsford Road. I need to be clear that my staff are here to teach and care for your children; they are not traffic wardens or police officers. Please be respectful of other road users and our neighbours in order to reinforce the message we share daily with our children: Every Heart is Sacred.
